The first thing you should know: the average child laughs 400 times a day. The average adult laughs only 15 times per day. If I weren't already terrified about getting older, this certainly didn't help. What is the disconnect here? What causes us to lose that positive energy and happiness? With each year of life do we lose 10 laughs a day? How did that quota get set?
Today marked the last day of my junior year of college. Now most will say that still makes me young, but there is something beyond surreal about starting the final year of college. It seems to be the last year of "youth." The "real world" is looming. The economy isn't what it should be and the current situation with Greece certainly isn't helping. Will we get jobs when we graduate? What do I even want to do? Security? Policy? Nonprofit management? Law school? Graduate school? Atlanta? Richmond? And then I realized, it's all of these thoughts that keep adults from laughing as often as children.
So here's to senior year. I've got approximately 367 days until graduation. One year until I have to move out of the greatest town in the whole world. Until then, I'll be enjoying everything UGA and Athens have to offer. Until then, we can try for those 400 laughs instead of just 15.
